A Bible Believers series on
The Love of God

Love from 'their' viewpoint!
The Ecumenicals out there in Ecumenical Land

Tonight, we begin this series looking toward an exact understanding of what God's Love is.  As I see the many problems not only in the world, but also within our own churches - King James Bible preaching churches, too, by the way - the lack of true knowledge and understanding of God's Love is at a serious level of ignorance and unawareness.  Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. Matthew 22:29

This study must be done under the authority of God and not of man!  This can not be a study based on any of my own manipulation towards a certain goal or objective.  But, under the guidance of the scriptures, I believe that if folks would get the 'handle' on God's Love, they would begin to see the fruit of God's promises and would see a spiritual awareness that is beyond anything previously 'experienced' in their daily and personal lives.

Let's first take a quick look at love itself.

(1) Love is God's nature!
1 John 4:8,16  He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.  16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
(2) Godly love is giving, sacrificial love!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
1 John 4:9  In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
I John 3:16-17 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
(3) Love (God's definition - charity) is the greatest thing!
1 Corinthians 13:13  And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
(4) Love is an evidence of being a true Christian (disciple), as compared to just being 'saved'!
John 13:35  By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
(5) Love is the fruit of the Holy Spirit!
Galatians 5:22,23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
(6) Love is the first thing the Apostle mentioned concerning Christian living!
Ephesians 4:1-2+  I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
(7) True Christian love cannot be separated from truth and holiness and obedience!
Philippians 1:9  And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
2 John 1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
3 John 1-4  The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

So what is this "Love of God"?

Well, by comparing scripture with 'opinion's and 'teachings', it is only too obvious, but the ecumenical world has no idea what God's Love is!  Even though I believe there are misunderstandings amongst the saved - bible believing bunch about 'true love', there is no doubt, according to the scriptures, that the 'evangelical theological-impressed unconditional-love sharing-caring ecumenical self-proclaimed Christian has 'God's Love' totally wrong.  They have chosen the sensual & philosophical route along the highway of man's wisdom!  It is no wonder - they don't believe that the Word of God even exists!  Amen!

Love, to human thinking, is a warm fuzzy feeling or a sensual romantic thought.  In their thinking, God's Love is broadmindedness and non-judgmental acceptance of any one who claims to know the Lord Jesus Christ.  Unconditional love from man to man.

But God's Love is not a 'feeling'.  It is not blissful romanticism.  God's Love is not an emotion.  It is not broadmindedness.  It is not non-judgmentalism.  It is not non-critical acceptance.

We could go on & on in regards to the love that the Christian is to give out - and obviously, that would be God's Love.  But we will get to the Christians duty regarding God's Love later - once we get established just exactly what God's Love is.

Four types of people exist in regards to God's Love.

1) The Unsaved; the unsaved who think they are a Christian (won't even deal with the truth of being lost); the unsaved who are deceived and think they are 'saved' - 'born again' by various means and have their own way of loving and thoughts regarding God's Love.  Luke 8:12; Mark 4:15

2) The saved who are deceived regarding love in one or more areas of scriptures, doctrine, walk, etc. & the saved who know the scriptures at one level or another and yet are weak in the proper application of love and are all offended quite easily - they have no roots and are like children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;  Luke 8:13; Mark 4:16.17; Ephesians 4:14

3) The saved who are blinded by the world's love and have no idea what God's Love is - although they would probably claim to possess it.  Luke 8:14; Mark 4:18,20

4) The saved who are on good ground and will soon be learning the truth regarding God's Love.  Luke 8:15; Mark 4:20.  Many of them truly have God's Love and yet, many don't really understand it nor are quite aware of it.

Let's consider what God has for those who reject this LOVE.

I suggest that you look up the following 'samples' of God's wrath that is reserved for those who reject His LOVE.  This should instill fear into those who continue to reject God's Love.  This should remind us that have God's love that we have come to forget and take advantage of God's mercy - because these are NOT in reserve for us.  We ought to be thankful and should keep our eyes open as we read the Holy Bible as to the verses that are NO LONGER written TO us!

Earthly Tribulation!
THE DESCRIPTION OF THE GREAT TRIBULATION. "the great tribulation" (Mt. 24:21); "the day of the Lord" (Is. 2:12; 13:6); "the indignation of the Lord" (Is. 26:21; 34:2); "his strange work" (Is. 28:21); "a consumption" (Is. 28:22); "the day of the Lord's vengeance" (Is. 34:8); "the Lord's controversy with the nations" (Je. 25:31); "the time of Jacob's trouble" (Je. 30:7); "the time of the heathen" (Eze. 30:3); "time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time" (Da. 12:1); "a destruction from the Almighty" (Joel 1:15); "a day of darkness" (Joel 2:1); "the great and terrible day of the Lord" (Joel 2:31); "The great day of the Lord" (Zep. 1:14); "The day of the Lord's wrath" (Zep. 1:18); "The fire of my jealousy" (Zep. 3:8); "The great and dreadful day of the Lord" (Mal. 4:5).

THE CHARACTERISTICS AND EVENTS OF THE GREAT TRIBULATION. (1) It will be time of great deception -- the day of the Antichrist (2 Th. 2:7-13; Re. 13; Da. 7-12). (2) There will be worldwide preaching of the kingdom message, which is the announcement of the impending kingdom of God and the divine demand to repent (Mt. 3:1; 4:17; 10:5-7). (Mt. 24:14; Re. 7). (3) There will be worldwide persecution of God's people (Da. 7:25; 8:24; 11:33-35; Re. 13:7; Mt. 24:9-10). (4) There will be fearful judgments of God (Is. 24:1--26:11; Re. 7-18). (5) Frightful armies will march and fight (Eze. 38-39; Da. 11; Ps. 2; Zec. 14; Re. 9:13-19; 16:12-16). (6) It will be a period of increased demonic activity (Re. 9:1-11; 13:2-4; 16:13-14). (7) It will be a day of supernatural signs by which multitudes will be deceived (Is. 34:4; Joel 2:10; 3:15; Mt. 24:29; 2 Th. 2:8-10; Re. 6:12-14).

For those who disobey what God SAYS in the OT!
Leviticus 26:14-38

God Laughs at those who have rejected Him!
Proverbs 1:24-32 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:  I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.  Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:  For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

Read what Jesus Christ was saying to the Devil while He was being crucified, which included Satan's children!
Psalm 109

Don't Mess with GOD!
Psalm 2:4,5,9
He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

For those who committed adultery in the OT!  (whew!)
Numbers 5:11-31

For those not Resting on the Sabbath!
Exodus 31:13-15; Numbers 15:32-36

(4) A place of torment (Lk. 16:23; Re. 20:10). (5) A place of worms (Mk. 9:44,46,48; Is. 66:24). (6) A place of darkness (2 Pe. 2:17; Jude 13). (7) A place of consciousness and feeling (Lk. 16:23). (11) A place of wailing and gnashing of teeth (Mt. 25:30; 24:51). (12) A place of remorse (Lk. 16:27-28).

The Great White Throne Judgment
This occurs just prior to the establishment of the new heaven and new earth (Re. 20:11-15). Only the unsaved are resurrected to this judgment. The saved will already have been resurrected and will be reigning with Christ (Re. 20:1-5). This judgment is a judgment of works (Re. 20:12-13). Since all men's works are sinful before God, and since these wicked dead did not receive Jesus Christ as their Savior from sin during their earthly lives, they will be judged and suffer eternal punishment for their evil deeds and rejection of God's salvation.
Revelation 20:11-15And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

And it goes on and on.  Just reading the Old Testament in Leviticus is a good start to see God's responses to sin.  As you read, just take note of what God did to his disobedient when He got 'fed up' with them!
